Calculation method
Revenue = item price + shipping charged. Profit = revenue − product cost − shipping cost − listing fee − fixed payment fee − revenue × (transaction % + processing % + advertising %).
Worked example
For a $35 item plus $5 shipping, with $12 production, $6 postage, $0.20 listing, $0.25 fixed fee, 6.5% transaction and 3% processing, profit is $17.75 and margin is 44.375%. These rates are illustrative.
What to check before using the result
This model applies percentage fees to item price plus shipping. Taxes, different fee bases, refunds and subscriptions are not automatically included. Add allocated overhead to your cost assumptions when appropriate.
Frequently asked questions
Does free shipping remove shipping costs?
No. Set shipping charged to zero and enter the postage you still pay. The cost must be covered by the item price.
