How to use this calculator
- Enter selling price and landed cost per unit in the same currency.
- Include freight or packaging in landed cost when they belong to the unit.
- Set quantity to compare total order revenue and gross profit.
Calculation method
Profit per unit = selling price − landed cost. Gross margin = profit per unit ÷ selling price × 100. Markup = profit per unit ÷ landed cost × 100. Order profit = profit per unit × quantity.
Worked example
Selling at 18 with a landed cost of 11 gives 7 profit per unit. For 100 units, profit is 700, margin is about 38.89%, and markup is about 63.64%.
What to check before using the result
Gross profit is not necessarily net profit. Rent, wages, credit losses and taxes are not subtracted separately. At zero cost, markup has no meaningful denominator; the tool displays N/A.
Frequently asked questions
Why are margin and markup different?
Margin divides profit by selling price; markup divides it by cost. They describe the same profit using different bases.
Does quantity change margin?
With identical unit price and cost, quantity changes total profit but not the margin percentage.
